Technology research started in 2000 Q4 was partially funded by Tekes and targeted for creation of component based multiterminal application framework. Initial target was to include persistence framework for data storage, but the proprietary persistence technology was dropped in favour of standard J2EE platform.
The first Millstone version included support for web terminals, included UI-Automata framework for transactional user interfaces and proprietary persistence framework. This Millstone version was used for creation of commercial systems, including large pharmalogical information system for Orion that was released in 2001.
The second Millstone generation was a complete rewrite and included support for multiple terminals. In fact prototypes for WAP and J2ME adapters was built and tested with Nokia phones on HP Bazaar. The 2nd generation technology was used for creation of multiple commercial applications in 2002, including systems for Pretax Systems and Medineuvo".
The third generation Millstone is a partial rewrite of the 2nd generation focusing on ease of use. The first two generations was only targeted for internal use on IT Mill Ltd and was suitable only for Java professionals. The target for 3rd generation was to create an Open Sourced product that would be useful for both the Java professionals as well as for less experienced programmers.

2005-11-29 Millstone 3.1.0 is now available here. This version accumulates three years of experience using Millstone in large enterprise applications and software products. This version includes many new features for UI components, better integration with different J2EE environments and required enhancements for upcoming AJAX support. The 3.1 -series are backwards compatible with 3.0 API introduced in year 2002.
2005-2-14 Millstone Case studies available on IT Mill Ltd web site. Slides for four case studies of Millstone use in large commercial projects are available in finnish.
2005-1-26 Millstone Case studies presented in 3S Software development symposium, Helsinki. Four case study presentations of Millstone UI Library applications are given by IT Mill Ltd Millstone experts and customers.
2005-1-16 Millstone 3.1 brochure is out. Brochure for Millstone UI Library version 3.1 is out. Currently only in finnish, but it will be translated to english also.
2004-09-22 Millstone 3.1.0-pre1 is out! The first pre-release of upcoming Millstone 3.1 is available for download at SourceForge.
2004-08-23 Community Forum opened - mailing lists closed. All Millstone related discussions will be hosted on Millstone Community Forum, that replaces the current mailing lists. The old mailing list archives are still available.
2004-07-29 Community Wiki opened. The home of the Millstone community is moved to Wiki. Be welcomed to visit community.millstone.org and contribute.
2003-12-18 CVS update: 'field' branch has been merged. The latest development of UI components has now been merged. The changes include new Field-interface and nested Forms for compound data. See CVS log for more detailled description. These features will be included in the upcoming Millstone 3.1.

2003-05-06 IT Mill to deliver Millstone based e-health system. IT Mill Ltd has signed an agreement to supply Web-based health screening system to USA. The value of the contract is USD 290 000. The system will be developed by using Millstone. Read IT Mill's press release.

2002-12-16 Millstone 3 release got very good reception - on the first week after release there has been over 5000 visitors on Millstone.org and Millstone-package has been downloaded over 1500 times. Interesting discussion threads on Millstone can also be found on Slashdot.org and TheServerSide.
2002-12-13 Millstone Version 3.0.1 Released. The Service Release version 3.0.1 can now be downloaded from SourceForge. In addition to bugfixes, this version adds support for external XSL/T processors in Web Adapter.
2002-12-5 Millstone Version 3.0.0 Released! Starting the Millstone 3.0 stable branch, version 3.0.0 of the Millstone UI library was released. Changes to 3.0.0-pre3 release include better examples, more extensive feature demonstration and bug fixes.
2002-11-25 Millstone.org community website opened for the public. Welcome! The bug tracking system is also open for submissions.
2002-11-25 Millstone 3 pre 3 is released. This is the first publicly downloadable Millstone version. Most changes related to the release scripts and documentation.
2002-11-20 The project moved to SourceForge to provide public CVS access. The public CVS now contains the Millstone Base Library and the Millstone Web Adapter. Release scripts and Millstone Manual will be added later. For more information on accessing SourceForge, see developer section.
